Spanish Armada Cannons – 20th July 2015

Mullaghmore harbour, early morning 6.30 am and lots of people gathered around the harbour wall to see the first of two cannons being lifted by the OPW boat onto the truck. The cannons were layed on old mattresses wrapped in cling film so that the moisture could not escape, wrapped in carpet underlay & black plastic to be transported later in the day to Dublin for continued preservation.

The cannons for the most part bear a Saints name.

Examples of which are: St. Motrona, St. Rocho , St. Peter, St Ilaria & St  Sebastian.

Our hope is that these cannons will be returned sometime to Grange. Where in the not too distant future we will have an interpretive centre developed in the old Court house building.
